Best's C.M.T Sparkling wine in a bottle with a glass of bubbles

Best’s Great Western

C.M.T Methode Traditonnelle

This sparkling wine was inspired by Christine Mary Thomson (C.M.T.) who for many years has worked alongside her husband Viv, continuing the Thomson family traditions as custodians of Best’s Wines at Great Western.

Made from the traditional varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and disgorged after four years on lees, this wine celebrates the long history of sparkling winemaking in Great Western.

Sparkling Shiraz

Best’s Great Western Sparkling Shiraz was re- introduced at Best’s in 2006 after almost 40 years of absence. The sparkling Shiraz style is synonymous with Great Western and has been made in the region since the early 1900s.

Best’s Sparkling Shiraz epitomises the regional characteristics with plenty of spice and plummy fruit characters. The base wine is left on yeast lees in bottle for 24 months or more and disgorged in the traditional method.

Blanc De Noir

This wine is made with 100% Shiraz grapes from our Sugarloaf vineyard located in Great Western. Great Western produces some of the best varietal Shiraz’ in Australia, and is a twist on traditional Shiraz.

The parcels of fruit for this wine were carefully selected, looking for premium quality and flavour. They are located at higher altitudes at Sugarloaf to maintain good acid drive and the vines were leaf plucked to allow sun exposure on the fruit to generate more flavour.

The grapes were carefully harvested to minimize damage to the fruit and were immediately placed in the press. Meticulous wine making from start to finish allowed minimal colour extraction, while producing a wine of high quality and drive.
